Seek and you shall find from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Well, I had a moment of excitement yesterday. We had our machine embroidery class on the weekend, and we're talking about stabilizers because stabilizers are very important to machine embroidery. I suggested that we make samples, so I had dug out some rolls of stabilizers and made some samples for me!

Then I remembered in my drawer of stabilizers where I have many samples - perhaps some of those could be used rather than cutting into the rolls. Oh boy - be careful what you ask for! Look what I found.

This stack is made up of SAMPLE packs that I ...

The Masked Bandit from Appalachian Quilts

Today I was going to start canning pumpkin.  I have all those sugar pie pumpkins in Puddin Pop's Pumpkin Patch....

I went out for my morning garden stroll with the Hubs.  There was an ear of corn on the ground.  I asked Hubs if he had shucked one of the ears there the night before when he was harvesting for dinner and he said 'no'.  *sigh*  I'm not going to be that gardener who loses all their corn to deer and raccoons.  Hubs changed out plans.  He got the four-wheeler and trailer and we started harvesting.  We planted ...

Smoking from Appalachian Quilts

Saturday morning I got up to do all the things - the things that give me joy.  I grabbed my coffee and my harvesting bowls and went out to the garden to see how I was going to spend my day.  It was overwhelming.  I worked at it for a while and finally had to call in reinforcements.  I haven't been feeling well for a few days (fever and angry stomach), so the heat and humidity got to me and I needed help.  Hubs came out and we started harvesting.

Starting at 12:00 there are cayenne peppers, purple beauty ...

The Frugality of Gardening from Appalachian Quilts

I have always been frugal.  My Momma was frugal.  As a single parent (remember, my 'real' father committed suicide a month before I turned 3 and my brother was 6 months old), she scrimped and save where she could.  I'm a member of a couple groups online that are for us frugal friends.  I don't garden to be frugal.  I garden to give me joy.....I need to start with that disclaimer.

I have been in the foodservice industry since 1987.  I have been a broker, sales rep, credit manager, buyer....I have seen all facets.  This is ...

Almost Amish?? from Appalachian Quilts

I have some Amish friends in Berlin, Ohio.  When the kids were younger, we used to take a weekend and camp on their farm.  There were 3 farm ponds for them to play in and it was a great getaway for us.  Sometimes my sister and her 3 kids would go with us.  Sometimes my almost brother and his 3 kids would go with us.  Sometimes it was both.  (Alvin even asked us once when it was ALL of us if my almost brother was Mormon to have 3 wives and 9 kids.  LOL)  We were awakened in the mornings ...

Grow Baby Grow! from Appalachian Quilts

Bear with me, I have a LOT of photos today, but the sun was shining during my little morning walk.

As I was pulling the pics off, these were still on from Monday.  Two of the grands came to see the baby bunnies - Stella and Luciano.  Visitation is done in the garage on a moving blanket to keep them from escaping and becoming wild bunnies.  LOL

This bed has Roma tomatoes, sunflowers in the middle, zinnias on the ends and basil coming up along the long sides.  You can barely see it, but it is purple basil.  It kind of ...

ANOTHER New Addition to the Farm from Appalachian Quilts

I would be fibbing if I said we don't think about the grandkids when we consider adding new animals to the farm.  That is why I want some of these:

Thank you Google for the pic
These are called baby doll sheep.  While I do not have any yet....aren't they just the cutest?  The ones that are black and white look like a poodle.

Hubs came to me and wanted me to start looking locally for rabbits.  I had a traumatic experience harvesting rabbits with Princess Sassypants (aka Momma) when I was in high school.  I don ...

High Tunnel Update from Appalachian Quilts

Every time I go out to the garden to take pics it starts raining.  Today was no different.  *sigh*  I went out to open up the high tunnel and it started pouring.  Camera in hand, I decided you would get pics of some of what was going on in there instead.

This is the little area of chives I am letting go to seed.  As you can see from the cuttings, we have been wearing these out!  Chive flowers are phenomenal in salad!  You can barely see the baby ones coming up beside them.  For whatever reason, the chipmunk loves ...

A Tea That’s My Favourite Colour! from Hooked on Quilting

When looking for something new to try back before Christmas that was caffeine free, I ran across Indigo Punch from Harney & Sons. The photo on their website was as appealing as the description of the blend. Put a purple tea in front of me and it’s quite doubtful that I’ll resist it.
Pic-HS-Indigo Punch Loose
This tea is a blend of butterfly pea flower, fragrant apple pieces and rosehips, bright lemongrass, lemon peel, and vivid raspberry. A natural honey flavour has also been included in the blend, but that didn’t stop me from adding more honey to my cup of ...

Not Mint for Me from Hooked on Quilting

In keeping with last year’s monthly review of Christmas teas on the 25th of the month, I would like to present Christmas in Paris by Stash Tea Co. This herbal tea contains cocoa shells, peppermint, lavender, natural chocolate flavour, and vanilla extract. While I don’t like the taste of mint, the promise of chocolate was enough to tempt me into trying this blend. I was very thankful that it only contains trace amounts of caffeine since I ended up drinking it at almost 8:00 p.m.

The teabags are individually wrapped, a plus in my opinion as ...

Not Quite Ready for a 12-Step Program from Appalachian Quilts

...but I'm close!

I was more intentional this year when ordering seeds.  I save seeds.  I love to save seeds.  I haven't, however, been able to save all the varieties I want to save.  While shopping for seeds this year, I deliberately chose items I wanted to save seeds from.

These are just the flowers I ordered from Baker Creek.  I also ordered a few from Seed Savers and Bluestone Perennials.  A lot of these were chosen for pollinator attraction/feed as well as their defensive mechanisms against garden pests.

These are the herbs I ordered from Baker ...

Swiss Hot Chocolate Flavoured Tea from Hooked on Quilting

An e-mail from the English Tea Store yesterday reminded me of their Swiss Hot Chocolate Flavoured Tea. Being a chocoholic from childhood, this tea caught my eye last year around Christmas time. When I say “last year” I’m really referring to the end of 2018. Not only do I love chocolate, but I also love hot chocolate. By the way, I make mine with half-and-half. It’s delicious!

The English Tea Store has managed to combine two loves into one drink. How awesome is that?! This blend comes in a loose leaf format, so you can adjust the strength ...

Ahhhh…Paris from Hooked on Quilting

We all know that stress has an adverse effect on your lives. It can cause any number of ailments ranging from obesity to Alzheimer’s disease which are just two of many other nasty complaints. While it’s normal to be stressed with things over which we have no control, for example the death of a loved one, it’s not good to remain stressed over emotional issues for any length of time.

When stress over which I’ve had no control gets the best of me, I tend to turn to WP-ParisParis tea as a way to relax and ...

Typhoo – One of Britain’s Finest from Hooked on Quilting

Although we’re southerners, born and raised, where Sunday dinner typically consists of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, soup beans, biscuits, cornbread, etc., we decided to go another route for our Sunday afternoon meal when our children were young. The reasons for doing this were two-fold. One, we wanted to give our children, who were involved in gymnastics and ballet, a better chance than we had of not growing up to be a fat kid, and two we wanted to teach them proper table manners, grace, and etiquette. So, on Sunday afternoon we sat down to tea with a ...

Green Tea Blueberry from Hooked on Quilting

Yesterday, Rick and I went to Emil’s up in Tullahoma for lunch. If you live closeby and haven’t been there yet, you need to go. They have a buffet on Friday from 11-2 with the best chicken salad as well as awesome fried chicken and gravy. And the apple pie? It’s to die for!

After we left there, full as a tick, we went over a street to Celtic Cup. It was a rainy, gray day and I wanted some hot chocolate. This is another locally owned shop you need to check into if you live in ...

Organic Orange Green Tea from Hooked on Quilting

993EB5EE-BCA4-41E6-9009-597124ADFA72I’d like to share another green tea with you today. This tea comes from Touch Organic and consists of organic green tea and natural orange flavour. While I enjoy it hot, it can also be made as an iced tea. The non-bleached (light brown) tea bags come individually wrapped which makes this tea a perfect choice to take with you each day or to include in a card for a friend. If you do include a teabag in a card, you might want to take the time to go to the post office and have them hand cancel the ...

Happy National Hot Tea Month! from Hooked on Quilting

Happy New Year and Happy National Hot Tea Month! It’s hard to believe that it’s 2020 already. Not only did 2019 zip past, but the last 20 years have zipped past as well. It seems like only yesterday that everyone was worried our computers would crash the minute midnight struck and we were propelled into not only a new year but also a new century. Everyone prepared for the worst, but thankfully it never happened. Life went on, didn’t even skip a beat, at least not in my little world.

Lots of changes though have happened in ...
